It never fails…
I give someone a quote on their auto insurance and then they ask to see how much they could save by increasing the deductible…
I have no problem with giving a second quote. I’m here to help, so I gladly increase the deductible and give them the new rate. Then I wait for the reply…
Wait for it…
“That’s it?!? That’s all I save?!?”
Ya, that’s it. Unfortunately, raising the deductible on your car or home insurance really won’t really save you that much money… A few dozen dollars at the most.
Deductible applies to collision and comprehensive
You see, the thing is, the deductible on car insurance, for example, only applies to the collision and comprehensive parts of the policy. So, by raising it, you only get a discount on those parts of the policy. It doesn’t change anything on, say, the liability or benefits part of the policy.
Sorry, I don’t mean to disappoint you… There’s not much you can do to save a lot of money on your insurance, other than call around for the best quote. Just make sure you call me when you do that 😉
